UV-C Lamps Vs. UV-C LEDs
UVC LED and UVC lamps are devices that emit UV light in the UVC range, which is the most effective for disinfection.
The main differences between them are:
Wavelength
UVC LED can produce UV light in a specific wavelength with a tolerance of ± 5 nm, while UVC lamps can produce UV light in a wider range of wavelengths, depending on the type and pressure of the gas inside.
Power output and efficiency
UVC LED has a lower power output and efficiency than UVC lamp at present, but it is rapidly improving with technological advancement. UVC lamp has a higher power output and efficiency, but it can produce ozone if not filtered.
Size, shape, and design
UVC LED is smaller, more compact, and more flexible to use than UVC lamp, while UVC lamp is larger, more rigid, and more limited in installation and use.
Instant on/off
UVC LED can reach full output power when switched on, and can manage an unlimited number of on/off cycles, while UVC lamp needs time to warm up and cool down, and has a limited number of on/off cycles.
Directional output
UVC LED can emit UV light in a specific direction, making better use of UV power, while UVC lamp emits UV light in all directions, wasting some of the UV power.
Mercury-free
UVC LED does not contain mercury or other harmful substances, making it more environmentally friendly and safer to handle, while UVC lamp contains mercury or other harmful substances, making it more hazardous and regulated.
Longer lifetime
UVC LED can last up to 50,000 hours or more, depending on the usage and maintenance, while UVC lamps can last up to 7,000 hours or less, depending on the usage and maintenance.
